The truth is, I was this girl once, I’ve been there so I know what this feels like!
Coming from a corporate work background I developed a serious binge eating problem. The moment I started to use food to distract myself and try to cope with my problems at home and the stresses at work, I honestly could not stop. The food would provide comfort for a short while, distract me from my unhappiness and stress. Very quickly, I started to develop a cycle of binge eating and restrictive behaviours such as diet and deprivation. After an emotional eating episode, I became so guilty and angry within myself that I would drastically cut my calorie intake for days after and then binge again. This behaviour consumed my life, I became socially withdrawn, my weight would fluctuate, my skin was of poor quality and I was just a very depressed person.
Like anyone who binges…for a very short moment, I felt a sense of comfort and satisfaction.
This was an escape from the stress I was experiencing at work, my problems at home and often I was using it to punish myself for not being perfect!
This behaviour always ended in feelings of guilt, self-hate and more self-sabotage! I knew how it ended but for over a decade I couldn’t change it.
